- "Olive Branch: Twenty-Five Years in the Life of Mark Fisher and Cedric Chatterley" and "Reciprocity: Cedric Chatterley's Handmaade Cameras", March 20, 2010 (ONGOING)
Thu, January 28, 2010 9:00 AM - Fri, May 21, 2010 5:00 PM Center for Documentary Studies. "Olive Branch" Cedric Chatterley was a graduate student in photography, hanging out with his camera in Cairo, Illinois, when he was approached by a young man who invited him to photograph "everything in my house that's broken." Mark Fisher believed in the power of the photographic document to facilitate change, and thus began Chatterley and Fisher's twenty-five year (so far) collaborative project Olive Branch, named for Mark's Illinois hometown. The exhibition, which includes photographs, journals, ephemera, and handmade cameras, documents nearly three decades of Mark Fisher's life and reveals the evolution of this remarkable relationship at the foundation of Chatterley's most important work. - Farber Foundry's Molora Adapted from the Oresteia Trilogy, March 20, 2010
Sat, March 20, 2010 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM Bryan Center Reynolds Industries Theater. $28/$22/$5 Duke Students. This "mesmerizing" adaptation of Aeschylus's Oresteia (Guardian UK) turns the ageless language of Greek tragedy toward a particularly modern object - South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Committee, when torturers and tortured confronted one another in open court. As a white Klytemnestra and a black Elektra speak testimony into dark spaces, a chorus of Ngqoko elders drones laments, an unceasing, split-tone indictment that is devastating and beautiful at once. In this tragedy for the global age, classical form and contemporary life come into contact, throwing off sparks that are appropriate, since in Sesotho, MoLoRa means "ashes." Alert: The Farber Foundry's performance includes scenes in which the actors smoke cigarettes on stage.

The Duke Chinese Dance Troupe (DCDT) is an organization of students with a passion for dance and dedication towards the presentation of Chinese culture to the Duke, Durham, and surrounding communities. To showcase the incredible complexity, grace, and creativity of Chinese dance, and therefore, the diversity of Chinese culture, we have diversified our repertoire to include minority dance styles alongside popular ribbon and fan dances of the Han ethnicity. Although dance styles are characterized by different attire, defining hand structures, and trademark poses, many, if not all, styles draw inspiration from nature, whether it be from the ethereal peacock, crackling fires, or desert winds. We launched our repertoire off this underlying theme, drawing from Dai, Yi, Qiang, Chaoxian, Xinjiang ethnicities, as well as modern, hip hop, and martial arts, to celebrate the preservation of historic cultures in the context of modernity by presenting to you our 4th annual showcase: Elements.
