Greg Paulus

Greg Paulus graduated from Syracuse's Christian Brothers Academy in 2005. While there, he played basketball and football, earning all-state honors in each sport at least three times. Paulus played quarterback and led his football team to a Class-AA state championship during his senior season. He was named Gatorade's National High School Football Player of the Year and was rated as the top quarterback by USA Today.

Paulus received numerous scholarship offers to play football at several powerhouse programs such as the University of Miami and Notre Dame. He also received scholarship offers to play basketball from Duke University, Syracuse University, and Notre Dame. In the end, his love of basketball and Duke caused him to sign a letter of intent with the Blue Devils. The Shot II was a half-court last second shot made by Sean Dockery in the 2005-2006 ACC Basketball regular season opener against Virginia Tech. Dockery made the heave from about 40 feet with less than a second left, giving the top-ranked Blue Devils an improbable 77-75 victory over Virginia Tech on in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams.

It conjured up memories of Christian Laettner's shot at the buzzer to beat Kentucky in the 1992 NCAA tournament, when he took a pass from Grant Hill and swished a jumper from near the top of the key. Much as Hill did, Josh McRoberts set the play in motion with perfect aim.
