Randolph dormitory is part of the East 4 Neighborhood, one of the backyard dorms, and home to 185 freshmen. The building is the second newest dorm on East Campus, and features air-conditioning. The dorm is the home of the Exploring the Mind Focus. Like all other halls on campus, Randolph is co-ed, with male and female students living on the same floor.

[edit] Inside the Dorm

Randolph has been described as drab and cramped. The walls are cinder-blocks painted sterile white, and the dorm rooms are the smallest on campus. It is a perfect twin of Blackwell, turned 90 degrees, using red carpets instead of blue.

Its location makes it convenient for taking advantage of Brodie, and for walking to off-east restaurants on Ninth Street, but its greatest deficiency is room size.

The rooms are roughly 150 square feet with no true closets, though you do have a small partially walled-off space with a steel bar to hang things from. Students often "loft" their beds, using wooden frames sold by various student-run businesses affiliated with Duke. These lofts are priced in excess of $100, and are thrown out when students move out in May. These grant more precious square footage to any room, allowing the placement of a futon or couch, allowing students to entertain guests.
