SOFC

From Duke Wiki

The SOFC or Student Organization Finance Committee is a semi-autonomous group appointed by majority-vote of the DSG Senate to handle financial matters pertaining to all student groups on campus.

The chair of the committee is currently Alex Crable.

The SOFC oversees all student funds available for programming and administration. They are charged with the exclusive right to distribute the student activity fee, and are the only group that may do so. The Committee handles all student group budget requests, as well as all individual-event funding requests. The group also grants new groups charter and recognition status, as well as overseeing their termination.

[edit] Influence

The SOFC exerts a strong influence on DSG Policy, and last year, not a single recommendation by the committee was overturned. This is attributable, in part, to the charisma of the SOFC chair, who often speaks at length during DSG meetings, and the traditional deference shown by the Senate to the decisions of the SOFC body. However, it also requires a two-thirds majority to overturn a ruling by the SOFC, making their decisions difficult to override.
